THE TEXTBOOK “MATHEMATICS. PART 1” FOR GRADE 5 STUDENTS OF GENERAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS WITH RUSSIAN AS THE LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION HAS BEEN PUBLISHED

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our Honorable President, Arkadagly Hero Serdar, large-scale work is being carried out in our country to develop and improve the national system of science and education for the benefit of the people. Among these efforts are the improvement of curricula, as well as the preparation and publication of new textbooks and teaching aids.

Recently, the revised and updated second edition of the textbook “Mathematics. Part 1” for Grade 5 students of general secondary schools with Russian as the language of instruction has been published (authors: Zh.Starostina, S.Volkova, Kh.Geldiyev – Ashgabat: Turkmen State Publishing Service, 2025). This textbook is aimed at developing solid foundational knowledge in the main branches of mathematics, enhancing logical and spatial thinking, and strengthening students’ ability to apply acquired knowledge in practical situations.

The textbook consists of two main sections: “Natural Numbers and Operations with Them” and “Geometric Figures and Measurements.” The first section explains the concepts of natural numbers and zero, the rules for writing and comparing numbers, the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, their properties, and interrelations. Special attention is given to equations, algebraic expressions, and the distributive property of multiplication.

The second section introduces students to the basic concepts of geometry, such as the segment, angle, triangle, square, rectangle, and cube. It also develops students’ skills in measuring length, area, volume, and mass, and in constructing geometric shapes using a ruler and protractor.

The textbook includes tests and self-assessment exercises that foster students’ interest in learning and their sense of independence. Its structure and methodological design correspond to modern educational standards and the age characteristics of learners, providing a reliable foundation for the further study of mathematics.
