UN Highly Appreciates Turkmenistan’s Efforts to Promote Gender Equality

On November 13, a meeting took place at the building of the Turkmenistan Women’s Union between Oguljahan Atabaeva, Vice President for Medical Activities of the Charitable Foundation for Assisting Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, and Dmitry Shlapachenko, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan.

Atabaeva emphasized that the Foundation pays particular attention to children’s health, development, education, and social welfare, highlighting the existence of specialized UN institutions in these areas.

During the meeting, the participants discussed preparations for the International Conference “The Role of Women in Modern Society: Developing International Cooperation for Sustainable Development,” scheduled for December of this year in the National Tourist Zone “Avaza.”

The UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan stressed that all conditions are in place for holding a high-level international conference in Avaza this December.

It was also noted during the meeting that Turkmenistan was the first country in the region to propose the creation of the Central Asian Women’s Dialogue. This initiative aims to strengthen the role of women in promoting sustainable development, peace, and security in the region.

Dmitry Shlapachenko emphasized that the UN highly values and supports Turkmenistan’s efforts to ensure gender equality, including women’s access to quality healthcare and education.
