Pakistan — Turkmenistan: initiatives to enhance cooperation in the field of education

On December 3, 2025, a productive meeting was held between the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, J. Gurbangeldiyev, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Turkmenistan, Ms. Faryal Leghari.

During the meeting, the main focus was on strengthening cooperation between the higher educational institutions of the two countries, effectively implementing the work based on existing mutual cooperation agreements, and increasing their number.

The parties proudly noted that the mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is distinguished by its traditional friendly and constructive nature, and that thanks to the efforts of the leaders of both states, relations have become even closer in recent years.

The Minister of Education of Turkmenistan informed the distinguished guest about the efforts being undertaken to consistently improve the quality of education in the country in line with leading global practices, as well as the achievements reached at the national and international levels. The active participation of Pakistani youth in international conferences, competitions, and Olympiads organized by the higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan, as well as their worthy achievement of prize-winning places, was regarded as a result of fruitful cooperation.

The parties discussed a number of proposals aimed at expanding cooperation in the field of education.

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan highly praised the reforms being implemented in Turkmenistan’s education sector and expressed interest in further expanding cooperation between the educational institutions of the two countries. In particular, the Ambassador noted that there are opportunities for Turkmen youth to study at Pakistani higher educational institutions on scholarship bases, for implementing student exchange programs, and for organizing mutual familiarization visits of educational delegations of the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their strong interest in further actively developing cooperation and their commitment to implementing new projects and education-focused initiatives.
