In the era of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State, the scientific progress of our country is being highly celebrated at the global level. Today, a celebratory meeting was held at the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan, dedicated to the university being ranked among the top eight best universities in Asia.
Under the leadership of our Honorable President, the reforms being implemented to fundamentally modernize the country's science and education systems and to ensure the inclusion of our higher education institutions in the rankings of the world's prestigious universities are yielding magnificent results.
According to the official website of the Times Higher Education organization (theawardsasia.com), which evaluates world higher education institutions, the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan has been selected for the shortlist—the top 8 best universities—for the 'STEM Research Project of the Year' category in the 'THE Awards Asia 2026' competition. Known globally as the 'Oscars of Education,' this is one of Asia's most prestigious international awards. According to UniRank-2026 data, there are more than 6,300 higher education institutions in Asia. In this competition, which included over 500 entries from Asian universities, a 'shortlist' of only the 8 best universities was announced across 10 different categories..
Included in this prestigious list alongside Turkmenistan are the leading universities from scientifically and technologically advanced nations, including Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, India, and Hong Kong.
It is worth noting that the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan has managed to reach this major milestone for the second time. In 2024, the university became the first in Central Asia to enter this list. This new achievement in 2026 serves as further evidence of the sustainable development of science in Turkmenistan. The scientific project prepared by the university’s young scientists, titled 'Transforming Hazardous Waste into High-Purity Gypsum: A New Revolution in Sustainable Materials Science,' has attracted the attention of experts worldwide.
The meeting held today was attended by the university’s professors and teachers, young scientists, and students who have emerged as winners of international competitions. At the beginning of the conference, Razmi bin Abdul Razak, the President of the Malaysian Young Scientists Organization (MYSO), delivered a congratulatory speech via a digital system. In his speech, he highly praised the world-class scientific potential of Turkmen students, congratulated the university on this great achievement, and highlighted new opportunities for future cooperation.
Subsequently, a presentation by Sabina Quader, the Senior Coordinator for Global Cooperation and Deputy Head of Doctoral Studies at Japan’s Innovation Center of NanoMedicine (iCONM), was heard via a digital system on the topic 'The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Nanomedicine. In her presentation, the scientist noted the possibilities of using artificial intelligence technologies in nanomedicine, as well as the future directions of cooperation in this field with the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan.
During the conference, a presentation was delivered by the leader of the project submitted to the international competition. In their speech, they provided detailed information about innovative methods for processing phosphogypsum waste to obtain high-purity gypsum, as well as the gold medals this project won in international competitions throughout 2025.
Furthermore, students who have won international scientific project competitions and university faculty members addressed the audience. In their speeches, they proudly highlighted the modern conditions created in our country for young people to engage in science at a global level, the laboratories equipped with digital technologies, and the international experience being gained. This achievement by the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan has once again demonstrated to the global community that Turkmenistan’s higher education institutions are occupying a worthy place in the world’s science and technology landscape.
At the conclusion of the conference, the participants expressed their words of gratitude to our Hero Arkadag and our Honorable President for creating such modern scientific and educational conditions and for their immense efforts in elevating the scientific and technological progress of our country to even greater heights.
