Young athletes from Turkmenistan claimed top honors at the West and Central Asia Tennis Championship for players under 14, held in the Bahraini capital Manama with representatives from 13 countries.
The two-week ITF Asia 14&U Development Championships, which carried official International Tennis Federation status and served as a qualifying stage for the junior Wimbledon and Australian Open 2027 tournaments, saw Turkmen athletes claim gold twice — in both singles and doubles.
Nazli Hudaykuliyeva, a 7th-grade student at Ashgabat Secondary School No. 87 and a student of coaches Meylis Orazmuhammedov and Yuri Rogusskiy, won two gold medals in singles. In the first-week final, she defeated Jordan's Ayasofia Gokashau 0:6, 6:1, 6:3. In the second week, she again reached the final — after defeating Talia Al-Armuti (Jordan) 6:2, 6:0 and Mariam Kamareddine (Lebanon) 6:3, 6:2 — where she beat Gokashau again, 6:3, 6:2.
Nazli was equally successful in doubles, partnering with Sulgun Ishankuliyeva, a student of the "Jahan Döredijilik Merkezi" trained by Honored Coach of Turkmenistan Jennet Hallyyeva and Yuri Rogusskiy. The pair won the first-week final against Lebanon's Maria El Hachache and Mariam Kamareddine 6:3, 7:5, and in the second week defeated the Saudi duo of Jana Hakim and Fatima Albaajari 6:2, 6:2 in the semifinals before claiming the title against the Lebanese pair 6:3, 6:3.
Having won four gold medals across the two-week cycle, Nazli Hudaykuliyeva earned a place in the Asian Championship finals. The 13-year-old currently ranks 9th in the Asian under-14 junior rankings.
