Books have long been regarded as an inexhaustible source of knowledge. For centuries, reading and studying books have been considered an important cultural tradition aimed at educating an intellectually developed and well-informed younger generation. The Turkmen people have always shown deep respect for science, knowledge, and books, raising young people in the spirit of these noble values.
Books are inseparably connected with science and education. They form the foundation of social development and play a decisive role in shaping the future of any nation and the destiny of its people. In this regard, significant attention in the country is given to the modernisation of the library system and the improvement of its activities.
During 2026, declared the “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses” libraries of educational institutions in the Lebap region are organising a series of cultural and educational activities. These events aim to celebrate important national dates, promote the upcoming 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, and strengthen patriotic values among young people through the promotion of reading.
Recently, the Main Department of Education of Lebap region organised a special practical workshop for librarians of secondary schools in Turkmenabat city. During the meeting, participants were introduced to the work of the regional library and received valuable recommendations on organising modern book exhibitions and conducting thematic cultural events dedicated to significant dates and national holidays.
School librarians also visited the exhibition halls of the regional library, where they explored well-designed and content-rich book displays. The workshop provided an opportunity for professional exchange, discussions on promoting reading among young people, and sharing effective methods of library work.
It is also worth noting that school librarians regularly share their professional experience on the pages of the regional newspaper “Türkmen gündogary,” contributing to the dissemination of best practices in library activities.
