As part of the Education World Forum 2026, representatives of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan held a working meeting with OpenAI focused on the practical possibilities of using artificial intelligence in the education system.
The main focus was on two areas of cooperation: the application of AI to improve the quality of education and the development of AI literacy among schoolchildren, university students, educators, and administrative staff. It was noted that artificial intelligence is viewed not as a replacement for teachers, but as a tool to support the educational process, data analysis, personalized learning, and the efficiency of decision-making.
During the meeting, an overview was provided of the ongoing efforts in Turkmenistan regarding the digitalization of education, the development of e-learning platforms, and the creation of an analytical system based on data concerning academic performance, attendance, workload, educational trajectories, and learning outcomes. It was noted that such data provides a foundation for more accurately generating tailored recommendations for students and teachers, enhancing the objectivity of assessment, and supporting career guidance.
OpenAI representatives also discussed the possibility of piloting ChatGPT Edu or similar solutions in selected educational institutions. The discussions covered the selection of target groups, teacher training, guidelines for the safe use of AI, data protection, academic integrity, and assessing the impact of such tools on educational outcomes.
The parties also considered the possibility of incorporating a research component into future projects, ensuring that the implementation of AI is accompanied by an analysis of its actual impact on the quality of learning, student autonomy, skill development, and teaching effectiveness.
Further steps outlined included exploring possible formats for pilot initiatives, identifying priority areas for AI application in education, and considering the organization of a student hackathon or other events aimed at developing practical skills in using artificial intelligence.
The meeting reaffirmed a mutual interest in advancing cooperation in the areas of responsible AI use, digital educational analytics, teacher training, and the development of modern competencies essential for the future labor market.
