Large-scale reforms are being implemented in the education system of Turkmenistan, and the legislative foundations for educating and raising the younger generation are being strengthened. High-quality school education serves as the foundation for the spiritual, social, economic, and cultural progress of society. The study of world literature contributes significantly to this process.
Chrestomathy is a supplementary educational resource designed to accompany literature textbooks. It aims to develop students’ literary and artistic skills as well as their creative abilities. The primary purpose of the reader is to support the educational process by helping students understand, reinforce, and expand the material they have studied. With this objective, the “Сhrestomathy” for 9th-grade students in Russian-medium general secondary schools of Turkmenistan (compiled by L. Kasparova, S. Musaeva, and G. Atadurdyeva) has been published and developed in accordance with the literature curriculum and educational requirements. This publication will introduce students to the world of literature and provide them with opportunities to discover many interesting and engaging works. One of the reader’s key tasks is to teach students how to read and understand literary works, interpret them, and develop their own perspectives. In other words, it encourages students to transform their feelings and artistic impressions after reading into thoughtful ideas and an understanding of life values.
There may be many different opinions when evaluating literary works. However, it is important that such opinions be based on genuine knowledge and serious reflection on what has been read.
The compilers of the educational reader hope to establish a creative dialogue with students that will contribute to the development of reading culture and wish them success in exploring the wonderful world of literature.
