Turkmenistan continues to successfully implement large-scale reforms aimed at the further development of its national education and science system. Owing to the consistent attention of the President of Turkmenistan, Hero Arkadag Serdar, and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero Arkadag, special emphasis is placed on improving educational content, modernizing curricula, and developing contemporary textbooks and teaching materials that meet modern educational standards.
As another significant outcome of these efforts, a revised and expanded edition of the “Literature” textbook has been published for Grade 5 students studying in Russian-language general secondary schools. The new edition was prepared by S.Saparova, T.Khojamedova, E.Gulmuradova, and L.Kasparova and published by the Turkmen State Publishing Service in 2026, taking into account current educational requirements and students’ age-specific needs.
The textbook serves as a continuation of the “Native Speech” course taught in primary school and introduces students to the rich world of literary works. Its primary objective is to foster a love of reading, develop reading culture, encourage creative thinking, and strengthen students’ literary analysis skills.
The publication includes outstanding examples of folklore and literary heritage. Students will become familiar with riddles, tongue twisters, counting rhymes, proverbs, sayings, and well-known Russian folk tales such as “The Turnip and Honey,” “The Crow and the Crab,” and “Vasilisa the Beautiful.” Studying these works will broaden students’ horizons, enrich their understanding of literary language, and help them develop a deeper appreciation of the moral values reflected in literature.
The publication of this new edition represents another important step in the ongoing improvement of the educational system in Turkmenistan. The textbook will serve as a valuable resource for both students and teachers, contributing to the intellectual, cultural, and spiritual development of the younger generation.
