Students of the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University are undertaking an educational and industrial internship at China University of Petroleum

Under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and thanks to the visionary initiatives of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero Arkadag, the country's education system is being actively integrated into the global educational community of developed nations. Extensive efforts are being undertaken in Turkmenistan to modernize the national system of science and education, strengthen international cooperation, introduce digital educational technologies, and ensure that the country's education system meets international standards.

In recent years, the development of international cooperation and the expansion of mutually beneficial partnerships with leading foreign universities, research institutions, and companies have become one of the key priorities of the state policy. In this regard, international educational programs provide extensive opportunities for the university's faculty members and students to enhance their academic and professional development.

The oil and gas industry, one of the key sectors of Turkmenistan’s economy, has achieved a high level of development through international cooperation. Low-waste and energy-efficient technologies have been introduced at the country’s operating industrial enterprises, enabling the production of goods that comply with international standards.

Turkmenistan’s abundant reserves and diverse mineral resources provide a solid foundation for the development of the chemical, gas chemical, petroleum, and other sectors of the national economy. As a result, the country continues to strengthen its fuel and energy as well as industrial production complexes, while successfully implementing large-scale state development programs.

In 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the fields of science and education was signed between the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University and the China University of Petroleum (Beijing).

On April 16, 2026, the Chinese Ministry of Education, represented by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University and the China University of Petroleum signed an Agreement on the establishment of the Joint Turkmen–Chinese Energy Education Center. The Agreement is aimed at promoting international cooperation in the field of energy.

Within the framework of this Agreement, and with the aim of training highly qualified specialists for Turkmenistan’s oil and gas sector, familiarizing students with the experience of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and studying the best practices of specialized higher education institutions, a group of the university’s students, under the supervision of a faculty member, is currently undertaking an educational and industrial internship at the China University of Petroleum in Beijing from June 29 to July 20 of this year.

For the three-week summer educational and industrial internship, a special program has been developed by the China University of Petroleum. In accordance with this program, students become acquainted with the China University of Petroleum, its teaching and practical laboratories, training centers, and museums. During the internship, our students will also visit the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and its production facilities, the Geological Museum of China, the China Science and Technology Museum, as well as the Great Wall of China. In addition, the students will take part in short-term courses on “Basics of the Chinese Language” and “Chinese Culture,” as well as lectures and seminars on topics such as “Green Energy and Carbon Emission Reduction,” “The Future of Oil and Gas,” and “Prospects for Energy Cooperation under the Silk Road Initiative.”

During the educational and industrial internship, students become familiar with the wide implementation of digital technologies in the educational process, the potential applications of artificial intelligence in education, modern interactive teaching methods, and the organization of scientific research activities. They also exchange experience with Chinese students and Turkmen youth studying at the China University of Petroleum.

The educational and industrial internship, conducted within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding and the Agreement signed with the China University of Petroleum, provides students with broad opportunities to consolidate their theoretical knowledge through practical experience, to study advanced international practices in science and education, to introduce innovative technologies into the national education system, and to further expand international cooperation.

As a result, this educational and industrial internship will make a significant contribution to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University and relevant foreign higher education institutions and companies, to the implementation of new initiatives in science and education, as well as to further enhancing the international prestige of our country’s education system.
