International Achievements of National Science and Education

In the Era of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State, the comprehensive reforms undertaken in Turkmenistan to further develop the national system of science and education, to promote the active involvement of young people in scientific research, and to introduce innovative technologies across the sector are producing significant and commendable results. In this regard, the achievements attained by the country’s higher education institutions and scientific research organizations are gaining high international recognition and earning increasing prestige within the international scientific and educational community.

Recently, a scientific article entitled “Triple-Value Eco-Coagulant: One Solution to Three Global Problems”, prepared as part of the productive scientific research conducted by young researchers of Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan, has been accepted for publication in Issue 25 of the Environment and Natural Resources Journal, one of the world’s highly reputable international academic journals indexed in the Scopus database..

Several environmental challenges identified by industry have become the starting point for an innovative STEM research initiative designed to transform the University’s scientific research into tangible opportunities for society. The project undertaken by the University’s young researchers has established an innovative circular-economy pathway that converts two problematic industrial waste materials—phosphogypsum and aluminium dross—into a highly effective hydrotalcite-type Ca–Al layered double hydroxide-based coagulant for the treatment of actual industrial wastewater.

The principal scientific and technical challenge encountered in the project undertaken by the young researchers was to ensure the reproducibility of the synthesis process. Unlike pure commercial reagents, industrial waste materials are characterized by variable chemical compositions and a high degree of heterogeneity. This variability made it challenging at the initial stage to maintain consistent stoichiometric ratios and achieve a reliable synthesis process.

The results demonstrated significant practical potential. The research was subsequently validated using wastewater generated by textile manufacturing enterprises, providing an important basis for assessing the effectiveness of the developed coagulant under real industrial conditions.

Building on locally available industrial raw materials and focusing on addressing environmental challenges encountered across different regions, this approach demonstrates significant potential for further development, scaling, and adaptation to other industrial regions. Thus, the project provides an effective model for transforming an industry-identified challenge into measurable scientific, economic, environmental, and educational value.

This achievement, which has received high recognition from the international scientific community, is a clear testament to the policy pursued by the Honourable President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, aimed at enhancing the scientific and intellectual potential of young people, as well as to the unwavering support provided to young scientists.
