Turkmenistan – Korea: New Areas of Cooperation in Education and Scientific Information Discussed

As part of the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Korea, a meeting was held between Minister of Education of Turkmenistan J. Gurbangeldiyev and Hwang Jong-gyn, Head of the National Assembly Library of the Republic of Korea.

During the meeting, the current state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in the fields of education, scientific information and the preservation of cultural heritage was discussed, along with opportunities for its further development.

It was noted that the traditional friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries have been further strengthened in recent years. Education plays a particularly important role in this cooperation. The meeting highlighted the high level of interest among Turkmen youth in learning the Korean language and culture.

During the discussions, a number of proposals were put forward to develop new areas of cooperation. These included establishing academic cooperation with the National Assembly Library of the Republic of Korea, as well as exploring opportunities for lecturers and students of higher education institutions in Turkmenistan to access the library’s electronic and bibliographic information resources.

It was also proposed to implement mutual book exchange programmes. This area of cooperation is expected to include the exchange of academic publications, electronic information resources, bibliographic data and audiovisual materials. It was noted that such cooperation would help expand access for Turkmen educational centres to information resources on the Korean language, law and innovative practices in public administration, while also enabling Korean researchers to become more familiar with the rich historical, cultural and scientific heritage of Turkmenistan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides emphasised their mutual interest in opening new areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in the fields of education, scientific information and culture, expanding the exchange of experience, and putting the proposed initiatives into practical implementation.
