New Areas for Developing Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in Education and Innovation Discussed

As part of the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Korea, a meeting was held between Minister of Education of Turkmenistan J. Gurbangeldiyev and Kim Kyo-shik, Executive Director of the Global Innovation Studies Institute of the Republic of Korea.

During the meeting, the possibilities for further developing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in the fields of education, science and innovation were discussed.

It was noted that Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to modernizing the education system, widely introducing digital technologies, and developing the scientific and creative potential of young people.

In this regard, it was proposed to establish cooperation in the field of vocational and technical education, including studying the Korean experience and organizing professional development programmes for teachers.

An important step was also taken towards strengthening the legal framework for cooperation with the Global Innovation Studies Organization. In particular, within the framework of the visit, a “Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Engineering-Technical and Transport Communications of Turkmenistan and the Global Innovation Studies Organization (Republic of Korea)” was signed. This document opens up new opportunities for developing mutual cooperation between the parties in the fields of education, scientific research and innovation, expanding the exchange of experience, as well as implementing joint projects in the future.

The meeting also addressed promising areas of cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital technologies. In addition, proposals were put forward to hold expert meetings and round tables aimed at studying future labour market needs, identifying new professions, and developing the skills young people need to work in high-tech industries.

The parties also exchanged views on expanding academic mobility for young people and researchers, as well as on the possibility of establishing joint grant and internship programmes for master’s students, doctoral students and young researchers.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further develop cooperation in education, science and innovation, expand the mutual exchange of experience, and implement joint projects.
