On October 24, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the XVI BRICS Summit in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format in Kazan.
Warmly greeting each other, the head of Turkmenistan and the head of the largest international organization expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to discuss in a personal conversation the current state and prospects for further development of the established constructive dialogue, built taking into account common goals and objectives of our time.
Taking this opportunity, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov warmly congratulated Antonio Guterres on the occasion of the United Nations Day, expressing confidence that the results of the current meeting will give a new impetus to the development of traditional partnership.
Thanking for the congratulations and kind words, the UN Secretary General expressed deep gratitude for the hospitable and cordial reception during his visit to Ashgabat in July this year and addressed his best wishes to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Hero Arkadag, under whose leadership the peaceful foreign policy of sovereign Turkmenistan, always committed to the principles of openness, was developed, peacefulness and active international cooperation.
As it was noted, following the principles of positive neutrality recognized by the international community and forever enshrined in the Constitution of the country, Turkmenistan is constantly expanding relations with countries of the world and reputable international organizations.
Thus, it was mentioned that it was on the initiative of our country that the UN General Assembly proclaimed 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust. As you know, the coming year will be marked by a number of significant events, including the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
During the meeting, which was held in a businesslike, constructive manner, the interlocutors exchanged views on the possibilities of expanding cooperation in a number of priority areas.
It was noted that, being a neutral state, twice recognized by the Community of Nations, Turkmenistan has been pursuing an active policy in the international arena for many years, maintaining effective relations with the United Nations and its specialized agencies in various fields.
Turkmenistan also acts as a reliable and long–term partner of the United Nations in Central Asia, one of the strategic regions of the world experiencing dynamic development today.
Noting the importance of the standing decisionTaking into account the common tasks of national and global development, the Head of state once again confirmed the intention of the Turkmen side to comprehensively expand and deepen the established constructive dialogue on a long-term, mutually respectful basis.
Thanking for the proactive approach to solving urgent problems of our time and building multi-format cooperation with specialized agencies of the United Nations, the head of the authoritative international structure stressed that Turkmenistan has been and remains an important partner of the Organization in ensuring universal peace, security and sustainable development.
The UN Secretary General highly appreciated our country's initiatives to establish the principles of peace and trust in international relations and once again stressed the importance of new proposals voiced by the head of Turkmenistan at the meeting of the XVI BRICS Summit in the BRICS Plus/outreach format.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres exchanged mutual wishes for good health, well-being and great success in their work, expressing confidence that the established fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations will steadily develop, taking into account mutual interest in achieving the global Goals of the third millennium.
