Strengthening Children's Rights in Turkmenistan: Meeting with a UNICEF Expert

From September 5 to 13, 2024, Turkmenistan hosted the visit of international UNICEF expert Zlatko Nikoloski as part of a program aimed at strengthening the protection of children's rights. During the visit, several meetings were held with representatives of various state agencies, the key one being with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.

On September 9, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Education, attended by representatives of the International Department, the General Secondary Education Department, and the Preschool Education Department. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the preliminary findings of the Situation Analysis conducted by UNICEF, as well as to develop recommendations for further strengthening children's rights in the country.

UNICEF expert Zlatko Nikoloski emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation and collaboration at all levels to ensure effective protection of children's rights. Representatives of the Ministry of Education expressed their willingness to continue cooperating and highlighted the significance of such meetings in developing long-term strategies aimed at improving the situation of children, particularly in the fields of school and preschool education.

The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, where participants exchanged views on a number of relevant issues related to the development of the education system and the protection of children's rights in Turkmenistan. The outcomes of the discussions will form the basis for future programs implemented by UNICEF and the Government of Turkmenistan, aimed at improving the quality of life for children in the country.

Zlatko Nikoloski's visit and the meetings held are an important step towards strengthening the protection of children's rights in Turkmenistan. The outcomes of the discussions will be taken into account in the development of UNICEF's Country Programme for Turkmenistan for 2026-2030. It is expected that the program will include specific measures aimed at modernizing the education, healthcare, and social protection systems, which will contribute to raising awareness among the younger generation.
