Turkmenistan and EU discuss environmental and climate challenges of Central Asia

Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Belgium Sapar Palvanov met with Marc Lemaître, Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD). The parties discussed prospects for developing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the fields of scientific research, high technology, and innovation.

During the meeting, particular attention was paid to the environmental and climate challenges facing Central Asia, including changes in the water balance and the declining level of the Caspian Sea. The need for science-based analysis, implementation of modern monitoring systems, and application of advanced technological solutions was emphasized.

The Turkmen side presented an initiative to establish a Regional Center for Innovation and Technology in Ashgabat, focused on environmental monitoring and climate research in Central Asia.
