The Results of the Creative Competition Entitled “Translation – A Dialogue of Cultures” Announced

The results of the creative competition entitled “Translation – A Dialogue of Cultures” were announced at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. The principal objective of the competition was to enhance students’ professional motivation in their chosen fields of study and to further develop their competencies in literary translation.

In accordance with the competition guidelines, participants were required to produce literary translations into the Turkmen language of previously unpublished excerpts from works by distinguished foreign authors. The excerpts were selected from thirteen foreign languages taught at the institute: English, Russian, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, and Turkish.

The jury evaluated the submitted translations by assessing the accuracy of content rendering, compliance with stylistic conventions, and adherence to the norms of standard Turkmen literary language. The panel consisted of foreign language faculty members of the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, as well as translators from the editorial board of the electronic journal “Arkadagly Yashlar,” operating under the Central Council of the Youth Organization of Turkmenistan named after Magtymguly.

 The winners and prize recipients were awarded diplomas and commemorative gifts on behalf of the the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. First place was awarded to Shemshat Azadova, a second-year student of the Faculty of the Oriental Languages and Literature. Second place was awarded to Humay Muhayeva, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature. Third place was shared by Arslan Tejenov (fourth-year student, Faculty of the Oriental Languages and Literature), Meryem Meredova (third-year student, Faculty the Oriental Languages and Literature), and Merjen Gubayeva (second-year student, Faculty of European Languages and Literature). As an additional incentive for participants, it was announced that the best translations would be recommended for publication in the electronic journal “Arkadagly Yashlar.”

The competition not only demonstrated students’ strong interest in the study of foreign languages, but also represented a significant step toward promoting world literature in the Turkmen language, thereby strengthening the bridges of intercultural understanding.
