On December 7, 2024, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and a delegation led by the Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Aliabadi.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation based on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual benefit were discussed.
It was noted that a key factor in the development of constructive Turkmen-Iranian relations is the trust-based dialogue at the highest state level.
Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran possess rich natural resources and advantageous geographical locations, creating favorable opportunities for cooperation in foreign economic sectors, including the electricity, oil and gas, and transport-transit sectors. The parties explored the development of partnership in the energy sector.
In this regard, the necessity of fostering partnerships to optimize the use of resource and economic potential was emphasized. The importance of the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, aimed at intensifying Turkmen-Iranian interaction to achieve concrete results, was also highlighted.
