Cooperation Between Turkmenistan and the UN Develops

On December 9, 2024, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and UN Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions Alexander Zuev, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the International Conference "Joint Efforts in Strengthening International Peace and Sustainable Development" and other events dedicated to International Neutrality Day.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the special attention Turkmenistan pays to supporting peacekeeping as one of the main tools of the UN in maintaining peace and security. Peacekeeping operations (PKOs) are an effective mechanism for promoting long-term conflict resolution.

In line with Turkmenistan’s neutral status, the Turkmen side expressed its readiness to explore forms of its participation in international peacebuilding efforts.

The prospects of involvement in the activities of relevant UN structures, considering Turkmenistan’s neutral status, were discussed.

Both sides expressed confidence that cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN will continue to develop constructively.
