On 8 June 2026, the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University launched the In-Home Training seminar organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ project entitled "Bridging Environmental Concerns, Societal Needs, and Good Governance in Central Asian Education and Employment Sectors " (ESGCA), funded by the European Union.
The seminar, held from 8 to 12 June 2026, is jointly organized by the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University and the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan. Its main objective is to enhance the professional qualifications of academic staff from technical higher education institutions of Turkmenistan and to establish a national team of experts capable of integrating ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles into educational processes, developing modern teaching modules, and contributing to the design of a new Master's programme in this field.
The training sessions are taking place at the Information Technology Center of the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University. The seminar brings together lecturers and specialists from national higher education institutions, as well as representatives of foreign partner universities participating in the project.
On 9 June, the University solemnly welcomed representatives of the University of Genoa (Italian Republic), who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the training activities. The Italian delegation included Professor Giovanni Adorni of the Polytechnic School, Professor Agostino Massa of the School of Social Sciences, and Mr. Angelo Musaio, Head of the International Cooperation Office of the University of Genoa.
During the first two days of the seminar, participants discussed the concept and importance of ESG principles, their role in higher education systems, issues of effective governance, environmental responsibility, and social sustainability. Particular attention was paid to approaches for integrating ESG components into educational programmes, developing teaching modules and methodological materials, as well as applying digital tools and interactive teaching methods in education. The use of the Moodle platform and the development of practice-oriented case studies were also addressed.
The ESGCA project is coordinated by the University of Genoa and brings together higher education institutions from Europe and Central Asia. Its primary goal is to promote the integration of environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and good governance principles into education and employment systems across the region. One of the project's key expected outcomes is the establishment of sustainable mechanisms for training a new generation of specialists capable of addressing contemporary sustainable development challenges.
The programme of the foreign partners' visit to Turkmenistan includes lectures, practical sessions, and discussion platforms aimed at exchanging international experience and strengthening academic cooperation. On 10 June, representatives of the Slovak University of Technology are expected to join the seminar, including Vice-Rector for Digitalisation, Sports and Human Resources Stefan Stanko and Deputy Head of Department Ivona Skultetyova.
The organization of the Erasmus+ ESGCA training seminar at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University is another testament to the University's commitment to expanding international cooperation in education and science, enhancing the qualifications of academic staff, and introducing advanced international practices into the national higher education system.
The knowledge and practical skills acquired during the seminar will contribute to the further improvement of educational programmes, the development of new academic initiatives, and the strengthening of international partnerships aimed at achieving sustainable development and preparing highly qualified specialists for the future of our country.
