A meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation

Took place on October 30 in the capital, a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation took place, during which the results of the work done over the past period were summed up, a wide range of issues of bilateral partnership were considered, its priority areas were identified with a view to the future.

In this regard, the progressive dynamics of the Turkmen-Russian cooperation, which is successfully developing on the principles of mutual benefit and long-term, was noted. It was emphasized that the confirmation of the two states' continued intention to consistently strengthen long-term cooperation is the established constructive dialogue at the highest level, which directly contributes to the development of coordinated approaches to the implementation of agreements reached, the optimal realization of the existing impressive potential for building and diversifying productive partnership.

As noted, relations between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation, which are of a strategic nature, are based on historically established traditions of friendship and good-neighborliness, solid experience of working together and are built on the basis of mutual respect, equality and priorities of socio-economic development of both countries.

An integral part of the interstate dialogue is established direct contacts with the regions, large industrial and cultural centers of Russia, including the Republic of Tatarstan, the Astrakhan Region, the city of St. Petersburg, and other subjects of the Russian Federation.

Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation also actively cooperate on multilateral platforms, within the framework of reputable international and regional organizations and structures. Among the important events of this year is the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States and as an honorary guest at the XVI BRICS Summit in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format, held this month in Moscow and Kazan, respectively. In addition, in May, Ashgabat became the venue for the next meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS. In the same month, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the XV International Economic Forum "Russia – the Islamic World: KazanForum 2024", which was held in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation.

It should also be noted the participation of the delegation of the Russian Federation headed by President Vladimir Putin in the International Forum "Interrelation of Times and Civilizations – the basis of Peace and Development" held in Ashgabat on October 11, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and thinker of the East Makhtumkuli Fraga.

The agenda of the meeting, which continued in an expanded format, with the participation of members of the delegations of both countries – representatives of ministries and sectoral departments, relevant structures, included key issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. In this context, the prospects of partnership in the energy, transport and industrial sectors, agriculture, banking and investment spheres, business structures, and other relevant areas became the subject of a thorough discussion and exchange of views.

It was noted that large-scale transformations and comprehensive programs aimed at diversifying the national economy, creating new profitable industries, and producing a wide range of high-quality and export-oriented products open up great opportunities here.

Due attention was also paid to the development of humanitarian cooperation. The rapprochement of the peoples of the two countries is fully facilitated by the regularly held cross-cultural Days and other creative events that serve as a kind of bridges of friendship and good neighborliness. Cooperation in the educational and scientific fields is also fruitful. Here, as one of the illustrative examples, we can cite the joint Turkmen-Russian secondary school named after A.S.Pushkin operating in Ashgabat. Close ties have also been established in the field of higher education and training. Thus, numerous Turkmen students study various specialties at leading Russian universities.

Cooperation in the field of healthcare is also an important aspect of cooperation. In the light of modern realities, it is also of great importance to intensify contacts in the field of advanced technologies and innovations.

On behalf of the Russian delegation that arrived in Ashgabat, headed by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation A.Overchuk expressed sincere gratitude to the Turkmen side for the optimal conditions created for successful joint work.

At the end of the meeting, the participants confirmed the mutual interest of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation in further expanding and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, entering new promising areas and projects.

During the visit of the delegation of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, a number of meetings were also held between representatives of relevant ministries and departments of the two countries.
