From November 4-5, 2024, a delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan A.Gurbanov took part in the Ministerial Session of the High–level Conference on "Strengthening international cooperation in combating terrorism and creating flexible mechanisms for ensuring security at borders - the Kuwaiti stage of the Dushanbe process".
During the session, emphasis was placed on the use of multilateral approaches to enhance the effectiveness of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Topical issues of international counter-terrorism cooperation were considered, the state and effectiveness of mechanisms for responding to emerging modern challenges were assessed. The participants confirmed their firm commitment to further strengthening professional cooperation, and also noted the need to use joint potential in developing comprehensive counter-terrorism measures with the leading role of the United Nations in coordinating efforts to combat terrorism.
In his speech, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted that Turkmenistan, both at the national and international levels, is taking all necessary measures and actions to combat threats to peace and security, including against terrorist and radicalist manifestations. It was noted that Turkmenistan closely coordinates its activities with the United Nations in the fight against terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and other threats.
In continuation of the high-level conference, a parallel event on the protection of critical energy infrastructure from terrorist attacks was also held, during which the Turkmen delegation emphasized Turkmenistan's active participation in initiatives aimed at protecting critical infrastructure and supporting the development of practical measures to ensure it. During the speech, the Deputy Secretary General, Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office (UN CTU) Voronkov expressed gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for close cooperation with the UN CTU and full support for its work. The Turkmen side also invited the conference participants to the UN CTU event in Ashgabat, which will be held from November 11 to 12.
During the visit, a meeting was held between the heads of structural divisions of the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the State of Kuwait. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations and their further development in various fields.
