As part of efforts to enhance the education system and strengthen the professional development of school librarians, a methodological and practical seminar entitled “The Foundation of Science and Education in the Era of Independence” was held in the Gyzylarbat district of the Balkan welaýat. The event was organised within the programme dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.
The seminar opened with a musical performance by students of Secondary School No. 17. A competition-exhibition titled “35 Years of Progress” showcased the achievements of school librarians. The Grand Prize was awarded to Aynabat Alashova, librarian of Secondary School No. 20, while prize-winning places were also given to representatives of Schools No. 17, 27 and 21.
Participants shared best practices in library management, including digitalisation, collection development, bibliographic reviews and initiatives to encourage reading among students. The discussions highlighted the evolving role of school libraries as modern educational and cultural hubs.
The seminar concluded with practical recommendations on expanding digital services, organising thematic events and strengthening professional collaboration among librarians.
