Meeting with US delegation held at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan

On June 8, 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan between the Deputy Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, Azat Atayev, and a delegation from the United States of America, headed by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sarah Rogers.

During the talks, the parties outlined ways to deepen Turkmen-American cooperation in the field of education. Special attention was paid to building up inter-university ties, expanding academic mobility, improving language training, as well as integrating digital technologies to train specialists for modern sectors of the economy.

It was noted that cooperation is based on a systemic foundation within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding and the joint Roadmap signed in 2023. These mechanisms make it possible to transform individual projects into a consistent, long-term strategy for improving the quality of education and expanding opportunities for youth.

The Turkmen side briefed the guests on the progress of educational reforms focused on large-scale digitalization, the introduction of innovations, strengthening the research potential of universities, and strategic human capital planning in the context of the transition to a knowledge-based economy.

The focus of the inter-university dialogue was on launching joint Master's programs (including MBA), developing dual-degree models, synchronizing curricula, and enhancing professional development for faculty members. The parties emphasized that such projects will strengthen direct contacts between universities of the two countries.

Special attention was paid to current exchange programs as an effective tool for developing leadership qualities and mutual understanding among youth. The US side proposed considering options to increase quotas for Turkmen participants and to intensify engagement with the alumni network.

In the field of international assessment of knowledge and IT technologies, the parties discussed the implementation of advanced testing and certification standards, as well as expanding access to leading US digital educational platforms, which will complement Turkmenistan's current successful experience in integrating global online resources.

In conclusion, the parties agreed to update the joint cooperation Roadmap. The revised strategic document will solidify new academic priorities, including digital ecosystems, artificial intelligence technologies, international accreditation of universities, and new joint university projects.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere, reaffirming the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and training qualified personnel for the future.
