At the beginning of 2024, Luxembourg residents will have “electronic wallets” in which they can store ID cards, driving licenses, medical prescriptions, travel cards and other important documents. Their electronic versions will have the same validity as paper versions.
To use the electronic wallet, a mobile application will be created with access to various public and private services: for example, it will be possible to open a bank account and rent a car.
Other European countries are already adopting digital documents. For example, from 2024 electronic identity cards will appear in the Czech Republic.
And in two years, all EU residents will have them - this is what the EU Council and the European Parliament decided.
